Each posture is held for a long period of time, maybe 3-5 minutes, enough time to allow for an internal shift, an internal surrender. This also gives your muscles permission to relax, both mentally, physically and emotionally. Restorative yoga is a passive practice with very little movement. This yoga has been proven to reduce the affect of stress related disease, anxiety, depression and digestive dysfunction. Yin yoga and restorative yoga are not the same. While both practices allow focus on the breath, there are a few differences.

What should I wear to Restorative Yoga?

Usually there is quiet music playing in the background. Since there is no active movement going on there is no body heat, so a person practicing restorative yoga should dress a little warmer.
